Ricardo R. Salazar is a Laredo native. He is the proud son of Marco and
Dora Salazar. Salazar attended Octavio Salinas Elementary School where he
was an Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance student as well as part of the
Gifted and Talented Program. He later attended United South Middle School
and United South High School where he was in the Honor Society and a
Distinguished Advanced Graduate of 2001. He served as team Captain for the
1999-2000 District Champion football team. Mr. Salazar always knew he
wanted to be in the Law Enforcement field and pursued a Criminal Justice
Associates Degree from Laredo Community College in 2005 and eventually
received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M International University in
2007 with a concentration in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology.
In January 2009 Mr. Salazar was sponsored by the El Cenizo Police Department
granting him the opportunity to attend the Laredo Community College Regional
Police Academy. While attending the eighteen week intense academy, he was
chosen Disciplinary Corporal by the academy staff and excelled in both
physical and academic exams. In May 2009, he was commissioned by the Texas
Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).
Since then Mr. Salazar has served proudly with the City of El Cenizo Police
Department as a patrol officer. In September 2010, Officer Salazar was
appointed Acting Police Chief and was sworn in as the Chief of Police
(yesterday) January 19, 2011. Chief Rick Salazar has obtained
certifications concentrating in USE OF FORCE, NEW SUPERVISOR’S COURSE AND
CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. His hobbies include playing football, board games,
cookouts, hunting, ranching, card games, going to church, and spending
quality time with his friends and family. He also enjoy giving back to the
community and participating in community service programs geared to reduce
violence and keep children off streets and away from drugs, gangs and
alcohol. He also served as President of the Lyndon B. Johnson athletic
booster club during the years 2005-2007.
